Practice Poem
I am just a poem,

Just a practice poem,
Just a dummy poem,
Awaiting the real poem

I could have been another poem,
But I am just this poem.

"Say, why does every line in this poem
End with poem?"

Picture Perfect

She stood there by the ocean,
The breeze gently lifted her hair.
Of that seagull just above her,
She was totally unaware.

Seemingly floating in the sky,
The seagull’s wings were still.
I think it paused to take good aim,
And drop a mess at will.

Too late she looked above her head,
Where the seagull hovered now.
Then as I watched in horror,
Bird droppings hit her brow.

Her scream pierced the balmy air.
Splat! The stuff hit her face.
Then she saw my camera and me,
And stomped off in disgrace.

Office Policy Change

Stepping into the boardroom meeting,
Stepped out of character too.
Put a red slipper on one foot,
On the other a bright blue shoe.

Stress at work was at a peak.
I could hardly contain my grin,
At the shock on each and every face
The moment their boss walked in.

Eyes moved slowly from my feet
To capture my innocent stare.
Each one of them convinced I think,
I was totally unaware.

Unable to contain myself.
My laughter bubbled free.
At my release, they followed suit
Relief conjoined with glee.

Our memorable meeting followed with
Coffee and doughnuts for the staff.
Office policy now includes
Time every day to laugh!

Retirement

It's not it's knocked up to be,
this thing we look so forward to.

A time of life that's worry free,
so much time and things to do.

But wait a minute, sometings wrong,
things aren't as they should be.

The money is short, the month is long,
and so much time on my hands for me.

I'm not as spry as I once was,
a lot of my energy has wasted away.

I have some bad days as everyone does,
and take life as it comes, day by day.

This system is backwards to me it seems,
we should retire first, and work last.

Then in our youth, chase our dreams,
all lifes expectations surpassed.

Reigning Men

Kings and Princes; Lords and Earls;
It’s always reigning men.
Few exceptions where women rule,
Though some of us have the yen.

What if we changed the trend around?
Let women take the lead.
Maybe the definitive feminine touch
Is all we really need.

That’s not to say reigning men
Should not still do their part.
But instead of ruling with their fists,
Try thinking with their hearts.

A gentle reign would always be
Refreshing now and then
But there is not much chance of that,
If it’s always reigning men.
