The Wheel of Fate

The wheel of fate must turn
All people ride the wheel
Its movement I must learn
Its secrets I must steal

Are there any on earth that are truly free
To come and go as they alone please
Are there any who choose they’re own destiny
Those who pay no penalty fees

The wheel of fate must turn
The gods are in control
They decide who will burn
And who will reach the goal

Oh so many people who live in vain
Racking up points in their day to day
An outside observer would say, “They’re insane
Why can’t they see there’s a better way?”

The wheel of fate must turn
Perhaps it can be broken
It is indeed the Creator’s concern
For He Himself has spoken

“I am the light of the world you see
It is me alone for you to believe
For if you don’t accept who I claim to be
Then you will die with those who deceive.”

The wheel of fate must turn
But I am no longer bound
That old life I now spurn
For I searched and I found

Grace (for Sheila)

you were born in the woodlands of music and wine
blindsided by rapt baptismal light,
a dervish mirage under the poets tree
you migrated, banging a drum

yogis sat with their heads in their hands
walking bodhisattvas gave you grapes,
fed on the juices you blossomed
into a woman with healing hands

they still called you bhikku after you fought the battle on the aqueducts
when you washed you hair in the rain
and cut the windmans chains whilst he slept
when you tendons raged.

Graduation and Beyond

Life is enjoyed most
When we complete big tasks,
And graduating from college
Often provides us with a thrill that lasts.

Saying goodbye to friends
that we may not see again,
gives way to our respective futures,
and career opportunities without end.

Of course, professors should be remembered too
But the things that are probably remembered
most,
Are the ideas discovered, and the problems solved,
Which were only achieved, thanks to our own great resolve.

Truly, what lies ahead may seem very
uncertain,
But life well go on, as we try to peek behind every curtain,
In many ways it's like Christmas again and again,
As we go through life's portals, always
trying to meet new friends.

And in the end when life is nearly through
And when we ask ourselves what more do we
need to do,
The answer that should come is that It was
all good,
And that we really did get done all the
things that we should.

Speak Out

It may not stop the hunger,
Or bring mankind world peace,
It may not make the poor men rich,
Or cause the wars to cease.

It may not calm the roaring seas,
Or stop the poverty,
But the power of one voice can change the world,
And that's all it needs to be!

One Fireman's fate

The bell clangs, out of our bunks we roll
Sliding down the bright brass pole
On the truck donning gear
Chanting our claim, no fear, no fear

To the call we rush in the night
Pull to the curb oh what a sight
Flames, embers, people's screams
One look now at many shattered dreams

Into the fire we rush to save life
Dragging our line, axe, and pike
Up the steep stairs and through the hot door
I step too quick and go through the floor

Into the room below all aglow
The fires intense my screams so immense
The heat is unyielding but then I can see
My body from above and what I am shielding

It is God's will I went through that door
And part of his plan I fell through that floor
For my purpose is seen through my own tears
I have given my life for one of two years

Don't be angry I have lived my life true
To the child I have saved I'm glad you will too
I was a fireman and proud to be one
I know your life's fate you'll be on truck one

I know this is true for God has shown me
One life for another as it will be
As I watch from above my tears turn to joy
I have given my life for my own little boy
